Naomh Mairtin LGFA

During the latest championship season at my local Gaelic football club, I began to create promotional pieces of media to advertise when our championship games were scheduled. I've expressed great interest in the importance of media coverage for sport, particularly in relation to women's sports throughout many of my college projects, predominatly as part of my dissertation under the title 'How media coverage of Ladies Gaelic football has influenced spectator attitudes towards the LGFA'.

As a result of this passion, and my personal experience of observing little to no media support or coverage from local media outlets who donate significant space to our male counterparts, and to our own clubs social media platforms over the years I became inspired to make whatever impact I could in support of my teammates, management and our hard work throughout championship.

As a result of no professional photographers sent from local newspapers/digital media platforms, I have continued to use one photograph which was taken prior to our first round of championship to advertise the games which were to follow. I would love the opportunity to have more content to create pieces of media in support of my team and our journey. While I believe I could capture content to use for media purposes for our club, it is a struggle finding a place between player and promoter. I'm looking forward to offering my services in future to help build a bigger audience for ladies Gaelic football within our club and community.

Since creating these promotional pieces, myself and my teammates have noticed an increase in hype in the build up to our championship games. It means a lot to me to see an increase of support at the games, an increase of online support from club members and the broader community as well as hearing people ask the result of games.
