EXPOSE YOUR RESEARCH

As part of the inaugural Creative Media Research Symposium at Dundalk Institute of Technology, I was awarded with the Expose Your Research Award. This is for the successful communication of my dissertation through a visual image.

Award Presentation

This image aims to provide a visual insight into the research question: ‘How has media coverage of Ladies’ Gaelic Football influenced spectator attitudes towards the LGFA?’.

A core part of the research is the focus on attitudes in relation to women in sport, with a specific focus on Gaelic Footballers.

The aim of this image was to represent the primary data gathered in relation to opinions given towards Ladies’ Gaelic Football.

Many attitudes uncovered in this research study revealed issues surrounding sexism and stereotypes relating to gender and sport. However, highlighted in both the image and the research is the importance of the media and spectatorship.

The words, interlinked with the word ‘attitudes’, are key aspects and descriptors of a better outlook on women in sport. The positive impacts that media coverage and increased spectatorship has on attitudes will hopefully continue to outweigh the negative perspectives, represented by the quotes in the background of the image, while working towards setting a new standard of attitudes towards Ladies’ Gaelic Football.
