'MATES' MUSIC VIDEO - 2016

One of my first experiences with a large scale project was during the first year of my course at DkIT. Tasked with the brief of creating a music video, from any genre of music and adhering to no specific style of video, from a parody to a cinematic style. Myself and the group members wanted to create something light-hearted and enjoyable for the viewer, while also providing a storyline which would allow us to bring the viewer with us on the journey we experienced while creating this video.

The idea of creating our own version of the classic sitcom 'Friends' credit intro was one which I could visually see working out from early on in the project. A song everyone knows and a signature image of a couch at a water fountain which has become iconic. What seemed like a far fetched idea of somehow managing to bring a couch to the local water fountain in Dundalk town later became the overall storyline to our music video. Topped off with some questionable lip-sync skills, we were soon ready to premiere our video.

I was heavily involved in setting up the camera throughout each scene, which required prior planning and behind the scenes paperwork in order to be prepared. After two days of filming at different locations surrounding our college, I volunteered to edit the video. Having suggested the song and pitched ideas for the filming content, I had a visual of how I wanted the outcome to look which was inspired by the style seen in the sitcoms credit intro but I also wanted to add an aspect of silent film humour to the video,  featuring the sped up video tied with confusing situations and overcoming obstacles in the way of the final outcome. It was a tedious project to edit as there was a vast amount of footage and my goal was to use a lot of quick cuts in editing to keep the viewers interested. By the end of the project, I realised I had discovered editing to be a process I really enjoyed. The video was enjoyed by our peers and lecturers within the college during a screening evening, which was a proud moment for me after the hard work involved. It was rewarding  and refreshing to also see the outcome reflect how great an experience it was.

MINI MONTAGE FOR 'BLNKDISRUPTION' PROJECT - 2019

During my final year project at DkIT, I was involved in many different aspects of our BLNKDISRUPTION project. Mainly I was the graphic designer and researcher, however, as with many projects, you lend your hand wherever possible to benefit your team. With this project I also helped with the filming and visualisation of shots. As our project was visually strong we wanted media such as montages and digital content to be an appropriate representative of that. Our project showcased creativity in many ways, and I personally felt that time-lapse footage and short snippets documenting our process was the best way to style our montage video. There is also bursts of colour throughout which represented the overall branding of our project.

'REJUVE' BUSINESS PITCH - 2019

As part of an entrepreneur module, we were required to create a business plan and pitch which featured a video pitch. We were given an open brief with regards to how we wanted to deliver the pitch. I volunteered to piece together the pitch using an online service, agreed upon by the module lecturer. With another member of the group providing the narration, I began to edit the audio into snippets and piece together graphics we had featured in our business plan along with the graphics provided by the service to help illustrate our business. Using the service 'Powtoon' was efficient and while there was a lot of content to pack into a short space of time, I made decisions to filter down to the most important and relevant information. The process encouraged me to be more focused and aware of the brief at hand, avoiding including unnecessary information which may confuse the consumer.
